Guide to Saint Kitts Citizenship

Caribbean Citizenship-by-Investment

What is Saint Kitts and Nevis known for and why do people travel there?

The Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis is a twin island archipelago, lying between the Caribbean and Atlantic Oceans. It is described on several YouTube travel blogs as, “one of the most beautiful places on earth.”

It is a tropical paradise. With mist-shrouded mountains, rainforests striped with hiking trails, the crater lake of Mount Limuiga and troupes of green vervet monkeys. The exquisite beaches and small but lively capital drive a thriving tourist industry, with many lovely inns and restaurants, as well as water sports of almost every type.

The Climate of St. Kitts & Nevis

The climate is balmy with an average temperature of 28° C (82° F). While it is on the edge of the storm belt severe weather is primarily confined to August through October. There have been just five hurricanes since the late 1970s, with only one described as “serious.” Disaster mitigation and prevention techniques have been adopted to hedge against any severe weather.

What is the history of the St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship-by-Investment program?

St. Kitts and Nevis boasts the oldest Citizenship-by-Investment (CBI) program in the world, started in 1984, and one that is still among the most attractive and affordable in the world. There are two routes: a donation or a real estate investment.

How Much Does It Cost to Buy Citizenship in St. Kitts and Nevis?

The donation option starts at USD 150,000 for a single applicant, rising to USD 195,000 for a family of 4 (applicant, plus 3 dependents). Above that, each additional dependent is USD 10,000 if a child (aged up to 30), parent or grandparent (aged over 55) and USD 20,000 for a sibling (aged up to 30, single and without children). Citizenship naturally applies to all covered by the application and is passed to future generations under certain circumstances.

The real estate pathway requires the purchase of an asset valued at USD 200,000 or more in an authorized project. It must be held for 7 years to maintain the validity of the claim. An alternative is to purchase an approved real estate asset worth at least USD 400,000, then retain it for at least 5 years. The applicant is liable for all relevant fees such as the application itself, due diligence, processing, and other government charges.

Why Invest in St. Kitts and Nevis?

Mr. Jean-François Harvey, Founder and Worldwide Managing Partner of Harvey Law Group (HLG), commented, “The relatively reasonable cost, the attractiveness of the destination, and the many advantages of St. Kitts and Nevis (View the program), have made it a hugely popular destination in recent years. It is constantly drawing candidates from all over North America, Europe, Asia, especially South Asia, and Africa, primarily South Africa. In fact, there are no restrictions on the country of origin.”

Mr. Harvey continued, “The donation choice is financially appealing to many who do not want to be burdened with a real estate asset. However, that is a “sunk” cost, whereas the real estate investment approach has given solid capital results to date. We currently work with several government-endorsed real estate projects, such as the Park Hyatt St. Kitts, an award-winning property that has delivered steady returns since its opening.”

What are the Benefits of St. Kitts and Nevis Citizenship?

As mentioned by Mr. Harvey, there are a number of other advantages enjoyed by St. Kitts and Nevis citizens (View the program). The tax regime is extremely favourable, requiring no personal taxes, no wealth tax, no inheritance tax and no capital gains. The islands are English-speaking, but there is no language, career, or education requirement, and no residency requirement at all for the program.

The St. Kitts and Nevis passport (View the program) is among the top tier of the most powerful, granting visa-free travel or entry to over 150 countries worldwide. It also enables the holder and their family to live and work in any of the CARICOM countries. St. Kitts and Nevis’ main airport, the Robert L. Bradshaw, while small, is highly rated for its efficiency. The islands are also centrally located, slightly over three hours of flying time from the United States, and a little more for Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

Is St. Kitts and Nevis safe?  What About the Cost of Living?

This is a very safe country. With a crime rate that is less than half that in the USA, on par with Japan and Switzerland, it is amidst the 10 safest globally, according to worldpopulationreview.com. The cost of living is a little above half that of the United States, and accommodation is between one third and one half the cost of that in North America (from livingcost.org).

With all the forms properly completed, the application process takes approximately 6 months. Accelerated processing is available.
